Herndon Train Station

Image of Herndon Rail Station

This image is from the turn of the century and shows dairy farmers loading and unloading milk cans onto a train. The railway was established in 1857, giving Herndon residents easier access to the District of Columbia in the east to Loudoun County and Leesburg to the west. It was partially destroyed during the Civil War but continued to serve Herndon for many years. Today the old rail lines have become the W & OD Trail.
