Washington Dulles International Airport occupied a large amount of land on the Loudoun-Farifax county line. Both counties lost land for the construction, however more of the airport is in Loudoun. This land the airport now resides was once farmland. This land was acquired by the CAA and Dulles was built. An area that was once farms became a major hub for air traffic.
Much of the land that Dulles now occupies once looked like this. The area was heavily farmland.
Once the land was acquired by the CAA, it needed to be cleared. One of the ways to do this was by burning homes. This image shows that happening.
