The Davis Family

Located at the entrance of the Fairfax County Government Center are the headstones of Adam and Elizabeth Davis. The headstones off to the right of the main entrance in a collection of brush and flowers. As is apparent based on the plaque situated near the marble headstones, this is not the original location of the Davis' graves. The had originally been located on the top of a hill in a central location of their former property which is now the location of the government center.

Adam and  Elizabeth Davis had been farmers from the late 1700s till their deaths in the mid-1800s. The Davis' had two daughters together named Mary ann Devaughn and Narcissa Monroe. Through further research of Narcissa, I found that she owned a slave Susan carrol and her son George Caroll that would eventually become the owners of her land. Through this, my interest became directed at black property ownership post civil war.
