Description

This map shows the location of Washington Dulles International Airport in relation to the original communities around it. Shown on the map, is farms that were on the land Dulles now occupies and historical homes and dwellings that were affected by the construction. There are several different identifiers on the map. First are the circles; the pink circles refer to landmarks before 1789, purple refers to landmarks between 1790-1830, dark blue is landmarks between 1831-1860, light blue is landmarks between 1861-1877 and orange is landmarks between 1878-1920. Another identifier is the tan patches, which refer to farms. The black line refers to the c1957 railway. The other railways included are the purple line, the dotted purple line, which is the path of an incomplete railway and lastly, the pink dotted line, which refers to the path of a previous railway. The red dots refer to the 1915 quadrangle map and the last identifier is the shaded region that refers to the area of Dulles currently.
