Text
“Nathaniel Hanna, who lives near Frying Pan, Va., Fairfax Co., six miles from Drainesville, told me that Dr. Wm B. Day [52] and Coleman, while at the battle of Bull Run, cut off the head of a dead Union soldier, and C.W. Coleman stuck it on a pole in front of his house, where it remained for three or four weeks. This was commonly talked about all round that part of the country.
“Dr. William B. Day has been doing all he can for the Rebels, as a physician and otherwise, ever since the commencement of the war, and driving out of the neighborhood all the Union people and having them taken prisoners, and otherwise aiding and assisting the Rebels, to the utmost of his ability.
“He has also taken the property of the Union people so sent away, and had it sold under false pretenses, making all kinds of false charges and representations to carry out his purposes.
