John was a farmer and a carpenter for all of his life. He owned a ranch in Rappahannock with her wife Laura raising livestock. They were like many Virginian farmers at the time. The couples had many kids, one them was Amana Abigail, she sadly died at the age of 27. the reason for this death was unclear.
