Description

This document provides the claim made by Jesse Harris and Charles Ratcliffe, who lived on the land and had claim, details how Jesse got the land from Willaim Downs' Heirs. The second page of the wartime damage claim made by Jesse Harris' grandson. Details include that Jesse's crop of corn was stolen from Union soldiers. Stonewall Jackson's soldiers burned what was left of calves on the property. Joseph Harris stayed amongst Union soldiers for nine months and can testify that they stole goods from the Harris property. The third page of the claim states that General Stahl from the Union army took hay and corn from the property. The Harris family was staunch Union supporters who had a bad experience when Stonewall Jackson broke into the house to steal his rye and hay.
