John Augustine Elliott Linton was the original proprietor of Lintonsford. Located just north of Broad Run, John inherited 740 acres of the land from his grandfather, Moses Linton, and added another 1,000 acres bought from Lord Arlington. He was appointed Inspector of Tobacco by the governor, elected Justice of the Peace, and elected Sheriff of Prince William County.He was married to Sarah Tyler and had one son, John Tyler Linton. He was born Jan 5, 1769, and died Dec 2, 1822.
