Simpson F. Marshall was born on September 12th, 1831 in Fairfax, Virginia.  He married Mary Ellen Beach on January 15th, 1856 in Fairfax Count, Virginia.  In 1860 his home was categorized in the South Orange and Alexandria Railroad, Fairfax, Virginia.  According to Civil War Prisoner of War Records, he was a Confederate prisoner at the Fairfax Courthouse from 1861-1865.  There are no records of him being a soldier in the war, however, there is record of a Union soldier being killed at the Marshall House in Alexandria; which possibly was on his property.  The men who ran the house fleed, which could have left him the last one to take into custody.  In the 1860 agricultural census he was a farmer containing two horses, one cattle, six hogs, $200 worth of livestock, twenty-five bushels of indian corn, and twenty bushels of sweet potatoes.  He voted at Bayliss' in 1859 and in 1861 he voted for secession at Arundells.  In 1861 he had two horses, one cattle, and only four hogs.  In his will he left his life interest to his wife Mary Ellen and his estate was divided among his children.  He died in 1897.

Mary Ellen Beach was born on August 4th, 1832 in Virginia.  She married Simpson F. Marshall on January 15th, 1856.  She gave birth to ten children, but had eight surviving children; George, Margaret, William, John, James, Cora, Thomas, and Harriet.  In 1880 her occupation was keeping house, and in 1900 she was widowed.  She died on January 20th, 1908 at her home in Fairfax, Virginia after a short illness.  She was 79 years old, and left eight children.
